King's Bishop: Hard Spun shortening up

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Street Sense will command the majority of the attention on Saturday’s Travers program at Saratoga, while his most immediate victim in this year’s Kentucky Derby, Hard Spun, will be the major attraction on the Travers undercard when he goes postward as the likely favorite in the $250,000 King’s Bishop Stakes.

The Grade 1 King’s Bishop is one of three graded stakes that will support the $1 million Travers on Saturday’s 12-race card. The others are the Grade 2, $200,000 Bernard Baruch at 1 1/8 miles on the turf and the Grade 3, $100,000 Victory Ride for 3-year-olds fillies at six furlongs.

Hard Spun will shorten up to seven furlongs in the King’s Bishop following a steady diet of longer races that include a second-place finish in the Derby, a third in the Preakness, a fourth in the Belmont, and most recently a second behind Any Given Saturday in the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational.
