This incredible stocking was handmade by Lois’ mother as a gift for me in the early 1990’s. It is stunningly beautiful and every Christmas it hangs near the other stockings. Every year we make the same remark that thousands of years from now this will be uncovered in an archaeological dig and challenge the great minds to ponder the traditions surrounding Hanukkah.

My Top Ten Songs of 2007 (in order)
Wow! What a year for music. When I look back there was so much good music released…and some really stellar albums. I’d have to put Arcade Fire, Wilco, Fujiya&Miyagi, and LCD Soundsystem as the best of the full album experiences of 2007. However, pound for pound, the best song was by far North American Scum (Lyrics, Video). It dominated my playlists from the summer through the fall.

Here’s a snippet of the Drowned In Sound review of the song: “North American Scum comes on like a 21st Century impressionist painting of early Talking Heads, sharpened, hardened and reshaped out of modern electro. It’s sparse, funky, driving, and as catchy as hell. The song is angular like The Knack, and when the bass line kicks in I defy you not to bob your head like a Weeble in a car chase.”

For me, the song is a great NYC walking song and it really hit home for me with the following lyric…
“New York’s the greatest if you get someone to pay the rent
and it’s the furthest you can live from the government
some proud American Christians might disagree
but New York’s the only place we’re keeping them off the street”

Amen, brother.

(Yeah, I know there are 11 songs in my top ten…the last one is Radiohead live cover of a Smiths song that I just had to throw in there.)

ROCKS!
Just back from seeing Neil Young at the United Palace…WOW. Acoustic set ended with After the Gold Rush. Electric set kicked off with Mr. Soul…ended with Cinammon Girl into Cortez the Killer. Holy shit. Oh, and I was 5th row DEAD center. Donald Fagan was two rows behind me…Bill Flanagan just in front of me…and Jon Landau across the aisle. Un-freakin real.

St. Barth. Oops…almost forgot to post this little clip. Who is coming to St. Barth? Could it be a famous comedian? Well, I guess even Ricky Gervais may need a rental car, too! Or perhaps it’s Carl?

Here’s our landing into St. Martin airport, coming back from St. Barth on a WinAir prop plane. You can hear the automated voice counting down the altitude…500, 400, 300…

St. Barth. Standing on the hill above the airport runway, I shot this video showing just how close you can get to the planes as they land. A little scary!

St. Barth. This is the place we stayed…Salines Garden Cottages. As the name implies, we were very close to Grand Saline (our favorite beach by far) and we had our own private cottage. As you can see from the video, there was a lovely little pool area, where breakfast was served every day (baguette and jam, coffee, and orange juice). I recommend this place highly…the rates were affordable and the owners were friendly and attentive. (http://www.salinesgarden.com)
